Nigeria’s ruling political party, All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed claims that it endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for re-election in the 2019 polls.
It will be recalled that the party during its National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting in Abuja, passed a vote of confidence on the National Chairman of the Party, John Odigie – Oyegun, the National Working Committee, NWC and President Buhari.
The APC said the vote of confidence was not the same as endorsing the President for a second term.
In an interview granted The Punch, by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, stressed that endorsing the President for re-election was not part of the agenda during the NEC meeting.
“The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, addressed this issue while responding to a question on the issue of 2019 at the briefing when he said the President has not said he wants to contest and that for now, his focus is on the issue of governance, so the issue of endorsing him for a second term in 2019 did not arise,” Abdullahi said.
