A man has been arrested in Imo State, in the Eastern part of Nigeria, for allegedly raping his mother, reports says.
The man identified as Paul Ihuaku, 45, was apprehended by the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, (NSCDC).
The state Commandant of the NSCDC, Raji Ibrahim, in an interaction with the press on Thursday said the suspect was arrested by the security agency after a tip-off.
The security agency disclosed that after the incident, the mother reported the suspect to the youth in the area, who apprehended him and notified operatives of the agency.
Ibrahim said, “The men of the command later proceeded to the residence of the suspect and arrested him.”
The suspect answering questions from the press confessed to the crime, stating that he acted under the influence of alcohol.
“I was not bewitched. I was under the influence of alcohol.”
“After drinking that evening, there was a heavy downpour and I could not resist the urge for sex. So, I had to use a pistol to threaten my mother and I later raped her,” Ihuaku stated.
The mother, whose names were not mentioned, stated that the incident was not the first by the suspect.
“I was in the kitchen and saw him with a pistol.
“He used it to threaten me. He told me that he would kill me.
“I could not do anything other than to beg him to drop the gun.
“It was in the process that he threw me on the ground and it happened,” she said.
