Gold valued at N211million intercepted by EFCC at Lagos airport

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday said its agents captured gold worth about N211million being illicitly transported through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Following insight report, the agents were said to have on Friday, November 9, captured the gold weighing about 35kg at the purpose of takeoff from a suspect, who is presently in the EFCC’s guardianship.

“Examinations are at present progressing to disentangle the suspect’s accomplices in the unlawful development of the products. In the interim, the suspect is participating with agents,” the acting Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Tony Orilade, said in an announcement on Tuesday.

The counter unite organization had in March 2017 caught sacks containing N49m being unlawfully transported out of the nation through the Kaduna International Airport.
