- Northern Youths oppose endorsement
Lawmakers from the North-West region elected on the platform of the All Progressives’ Congress, APC, on Sunday endorsed the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The legislators gave their support during the inauguration of coordinators for the ‘Northwest Young Parliamentarians in support of Buhari/Osinbanjo 2019’ in Kaduna.
According to the lawmakers, the President has performed well in the areas of security, infrastructure development and as such deserves to be re-elected into office.
Members of State Assemblies and the National Assembly from Kano, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto, Jigawa and Zamfara states were at the event.
Some of the dignitaries present are the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, represented by his Deputy, Barnabas Bala Yusuf; Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters to President Buhari, Sumaila Kawu, Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdurrahman Danbazzau (rtd.) represented by his son, Shamsudeen Bello and a former governor of Zamfara State, Mahmud Shinkafi.
Others are: Senator Jibril Barau (Kano North Constituency), Senator Adamu Aliero(Kebbi Central Constituency)and the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Samaila Sulaiman, a House of Representatives member from Kaduna, Garba Datti Mohammed from (Sabon Gari Federal Constituency), Kaduna, Saidu Yusuf Miga, (Jahum/Miga Federal Constituency), Jigawa, Hussaini Sulieman Kangiwa(Arewa/Dandi/Federal constituency, Sokoto), Ahmed Baba Kaita(Kankia/Ingawa/Kusada Federal Constituency, Katsina), Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Aminu Shagali and Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Aliyu Sabiu Muduru.
However, the Arewa Youth Forum has said President Buhari does not deserve to be endorsed for re-election in 2019.
National President of the AYF, Alhaji Gambo Gujungu, said the President was not fit to return as president in 2019.
In his reaction to the endorsement by the Northwest APC lawmakers, Gujungu said, the senseless killings taking place in parts of the country especially in the North were enough reason for Buhari to quit office for another Northerner.
Gujungu said the insecurity were the handiwork of “desperate politicians,” as no arrest had been made.
He called on Nigerians to hold the president accountable for the killings of innocent Nigerians.
His words: “Nigerians should hold the President Buhari responsible for the killings because he made it clear in one of his speeches that it was ‘desperate politicians’ that are responsible for the herdsmen killings.
“Being the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the bulks stops on his table. It is important, therefore, for him to fish out the desperate politicians as a matter of urgency.
“Therefore, to allow the president to come in 2019 will spell doom, not for the North but the entire country. This is not 2015 when we said North versus the South. This is not APC or PDP affairs. We have enough Presidential aspirants in the North that are capable and not Buhari again.
“Buhari should just honourably leave the stage in 2019 so that the North can regain its lost glory,” Gujungu said.
