Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has nominated the head of service to be the new deputy governor of the state.
Speaking with newsmen on Monday evening, Majority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Lugard Osuji, said the assembly has received a letter from Okorocha of nominating Callistus Ekenze as his deputy.
Osuji said, “The House has received a nomination letter from the governor for the replacement of the impeached deputy governor.
“The head of service, Callistus Ekenze, was nominated by the governor.
“His nomination has been cleared by the House unanimously. We are only waiting for his swearing-in ceremony.”
Osuji however, denied the allegation that each lawmaker in the state assembly received N5million from Governor Okorocha to execute the impeachment of the former deputy governor, Eze Madumere.
According to Osuji, “There was no financial or material inducement, to the best of my knowledge.
“We only carried out our constitutional responsibility.
“It is an insult to say that lawmakers were given N5m to impeach the former deputy governor.”
Osuji also dismissed claims that he was promised the position of the Speaker so as to lead the impeachment move against Madumere.
