Southern govs’ wives storm Calabar, empower women

CALABAR- For three days, 26 to 28 October, wives of the governors of the South South, South East and South West under the aegis of the Southern Governors’ Wives Forum stormed Calabar, Cross River State,  for their 2017 last quarter meeting,   hosted by Dr Lynda Ayade, wife of the Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade.

Wives of 12 out the 16 governors of the southern part of Nigeria attended the meeting of the Forum, which has been holding since January 2018 on rational basis

The climax of the meeting was the distribution of empowerment items to women, mainly widows, drawn from across the state.

President of the forum and wife of the Imo state governor, Dr. Iheoma Okorocha, said, “We are using the association as a mechanism to support the programmes and activities  of the wife of the President and also to compliment the giant strides of the southern governors for the overall development of our country.”

She added that the forum seeks to promote unity and peaceful co-existence among the southern states in order to impact positively on the lives of women, children, youths and vulnerable in the local communities.”

Also speaking at the event, the host and wife of Cross River state governor, Dr Lynda Ayade, said the items would serve as source of sustainable livelihood for the vulnerable women.

She said that experts had trained the women in various skills and trades to make them self-reliant and serve as channels to sustain their families.
